DC Comics announced today that actor Keiynan Lonsdale (The Divergent Series: Insurgent) has signed on to play the beloved comic book character Wally West in The Flash. In the comics, Wally is the nephew of Iris West, played by Candice Patton in the series. He eventually turns into the character known as Kid Flash, after an accident that is reminiscent of how Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) gets his powers. Here's what executive producer Andrew Kreisberg had to say about the casting.

"Just like when we met Grant (Gustin) for the first time, we instantly knew Keiynan embodied all the heart and courage of a hero. We are so excited to be bringing this much-beloved character onto the show."

Wally's arrival was teased by Andrew Kreisberg back in March, where he revealed that the character would be introduced in Season 2. DC revealed that Keiynan Lonsdale will be a series regular in The Flash Season 2, although they wouldn't go so far as to confirm whether or not Wally will become Kid Flash quite yet. Wally West is just the latest of several DC Comics characters who have already been confirmed for Season 2.

Teddy Sears has been confirmed to play Jay Garrick, the original Flash, while Shantel VanSanten is coming aboard as Patty Spivot, a new addition to the Central City Police Department who teams up with Joe West (Jesse L. Martin). She is said to be obsessed with meta-humans and has a crush on Barry Allen (Grant Gustin), unaware that he is actually The Flash. Michael Ironside was also cast last month as Lewis Snart, the father of Lenoard Snart, a.k.a. Captain Cold (Wentworth Miller) and his sister Lisa, a.k.a. Golden Glider (Peyton List).

Season 2 will also explore more of the multiverse, which was teased at the end of Season 1, when Harrison Wells/Reverse Flash (Tom Cavanagh) was sent into another dimension. The cast and producers confirmed during their Comic-Con panel that Zoom will be the primary villain this season, although the character has yet to be cast. Barry will also work with a new mentor and receive new lightning powers. After debuting in Season 1, the monstrous Gorilla Grodd will also be back for Season 2.

Keiynan Lonsdale most recently starred in The Divergent Series: Insurgent as Uriah, a role which he'll play again in The Divergent Series: Allegiant: Part 1, which hits theaters next March. The young actor also stars in the true-story drama The Finest Hours, alongside Chris Pine and Casey Affleck, which debuts in theaters this coming January. Do you think Keiynan Lonsdale is the right choice to play Wally West in The Flash?
