Haim Saban, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Saban Capital Group, Inc., announced today that Saban Films has acquired the U.S. distribution rights to Philip Martin's thriller The Forger starring John Travolta, Christopher Plummer, Tye Sheridan and Abigail Spencer, Marcus Thomas and Jennifer Ehle. With a screenplay by Richard D'Ovidio, the film will have its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on Friday, September 12th

This marks Saban Films second acquisition of Toronto following the action thriller Tracers starring Taylor Lautner and Marie Avgeropoulos from Temple Hill Entertainment.

Released from prison so that he can spend time with his dying son (Tye Sheridan), an expert art forger (John Travolta) is coerced into participating in a major museum heist.

Said Saban Films President Bill Bromiley:

"John Travolta was brilliant as a criminal who would go to any means to protect his son. We look forward to working with John Travolta and the talented team behind The Forger on the US release."

The Forger is produced by Code Entertainment's Al Corley, Bart Rosenblatt and Eugene Musso and Rob Carliner.  Executive producers include Jonathan Dana, Randi Michel, Myles Nestel, Gordon Bijelonic, Phil Stephenson, Linda Favila and Anson Downs.

Solution Entertainment Group is handling international sales. Bill Bromiley and Ness Saban negotiated on behalf of Saban Films and WME Global, who co-repped the film with ICM on behalf of the producers.

Saban Films is the new venture, which is headed by President Bill Bromiley, and launched just prior to Cannes where they acquired The Homesman, starring Academy Award® winners Tommy Lee Jones and Hilary Swank. The film had its world premiere in competition at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival, and Saban Films will release stateside with Roadside Attractions on November 7th.
