After starring in a movie like Shame, where we saw all of Michael Fassbender, literally, the actor is pulling a 180 with the indie drama Frank. The first photo has been released, featuring Maggie Gyllenhaal and Domhnall Gleeson flanking Michael Fassbender's title character, Frank Sidebottom. Domhnall Gleeson plays a young musician who joins a bizarre pop band lead by Frank, with Maggie Gyllenhaal playing another band member. Lenny Abrahamson is directing this oddball drama, based on the Frank Sidebottom (a.k.a. Chris Sievy) character, who starred in the short-lived British TV series Frank Sidebottom's Fantastic Shed Show. The character is also based on musicians Daniel Johnston and Captain Beefheart & The Magic Band.

Production began earlier this week in New Mexico.
