First Free Fire Photo Teams Brie Larson & Armie Hammer
Fans of prolific British filmmaker Ben Wheatley will be able to see his next film, the critically-acclaimed High-Rise, in limited release this weekend. The director has also recently finished work on his next film, Free Fire. The movie doesn't have a release date in place at this time, but today we have the first photo from this thriller, featuring stars Brie Larson and Armie Hammer. With the debut of this image, the first trailer could be just around the corner, so stay tuned.
This photo, which comes courtesy of Entertainment Weekly, also gives us a glimpse at Cillian Murphy, Sam Riley and Michael Smiley. British actor Michael Smiley doesn't star in High-Rise, but he has appeared in all of director Ben Wheatley's other movies thus far, Down Terrace, Kill List, Sightseers and A Field in England. While most of Ben Wheatley's movies have been set in his native U.K., Free Fire marks a change of pace, with the story taking place in 1978 Boston.
The plot centers on a woman's fight for survival after an arms deal she facilitates turns deadly. No details have been given regarding this woman, played by Brie Larson, or how this arms deal went south, but hopefully we'll learn more when the first trailer arrives. The impressive supporting cast includes Sharlto Copley, Jack Reynor, Noah Taylor, Enzo Cilenti and Patrick Bergin.
Ben Wheatley directs from his own original screenplay, marking one of the rare times that a movie he's directed wasn't either written or co-written by his longtime collaborative partner, Amy Jump. Martin Scorsese serves as an executive producer on the project alongside Emma Tillinger Koskoff, with Andrew Starke producing. We'll be sure to keep you posted with more on Free Fire as soon as a release date and a trailer are revealed.
Brie Larson is coming off her Oscar-winning performance in last year's indie darling Room, with Armie Hammer most recently starring in The Man From U.N.C.L.E.. Brie Larson will next be seen in Kong: Skull Island and Basmati Blues, while Armie Hammer has the Sundance sensation The Birth of a Nation hitting theaters this October. Take a look at the first photo from Free Fire, and stay tuned for more on this new thriller.
