Following the first photo released last month from The Free State of Jones, STX Entertainment has released two more images, both of which feature star Matthew McConaughey as Newt Knight. The first image features Newt leading a makeshift army as they advance on unseen enemies, while the second shows just Newt leveling a large rifle against another enemy. Production is still under way in New Orleans, so we'll keep you posted if more photos emerge as filming continues.

Written and directed by four-time Oscar nominee Gary Ross (The Hunger Games, Seabiscuit, Pleasantville), and starring Oscar winner Matthew McConaughey, The Free State of Jones is an epic action-drama set during the Civil War, and tells the story of defiant Southern farmer, Newt Knight, and his extraordinary armed rebellion against the Confederacy. Banding together with other small farmers and with the assistance of local slaves, Knight launched an uprising that led Jones County, Mississippi to secede from the Confederacy, creating a Free State of Jones.

His marriage to a former slave, Rachel, and his subsequent establishment of a mixed race community was unique in the post-war South. Knight continued his struggle into Reconstruction, distinguishing him as a compelling, if controversial, figure of defiance long beyond the War. The supporting cast includes Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Keri Russell and Mahershala Ali. Check out the new photos below from The Free State of Jones, which is set for release on March 11, 2016 from STX Entertainment.
