Actor Garrett Hedlund is in negotiations to join the cast of Inside Llewyn Davis for StudioCanal and directors Joel Coen and Ethan Coen.

The story centers on Oscar Isaac's title character, a folk musician during the 1960s who navigates throughout the Greenwich Village scene. It isn't immediately known who Garrett Hedlund will play, but he will join a cast that includes Carey Mulligan, Justin Timberlake, and John Goodman, if his deal is finalized.

Joel Coen and Ethan Coen are directing Inside Llewyn Davis from their own original script, which is loosely based on the life of folk singer Dave Van Ronk. Garrett Hedlund was interested in the role for quite some time, but his schedule for Akira prevented him from joining the cast. Now that production is shut down on Akira, his schedule opened up enough to come aboard Inside Llewyn Davis.

Production is scheduled to start within the next few months in New York City.
