Geoffrey Rush has finalized a deal to star in Summit Entertainment's Gods of Egypt, just hours after we reported Gerard Butler is in talks to star.

The story centers on Set (Gerard Butler), the God of the Desert, Storms and Foreigners, who kills his own brother Osiris. Horus (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau), Osiris' son, teams up with a human thief and the Goddess of Love, Hathor, to avenge his father's death. Geoffrey Rush plays Ra, the God of the Sun who is father to both Set and Osiris, and also Set's ultimate target.

Alex Proyas is directing from a screenplay by Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama (Dracula Untold, Flash Gordon). The director is also producing alongside Basil Iwanyk, although no shooting scheduled has been given.

Geoffrey Rush will next be seen in The Book Thief, alongside Emily Watson and Sophie Nélisse.
