According to Variety, Universal Pictures has decided to make George Lopez The Richest Man in World.

The studio has acquired the comedy pitch from scribes Jim Burnstein and Garrett Schiff as a starring vehicle for Lopez and set the project up at Universal-based Shady Acres and producers Tom Shadyac and Michael Bostick.

The story follows the poorest man in the world getting to walk in the shoes of the richest man in the world. Burnstein and Schiff have signed to write the screenplay.

Lopez stars in the ABC comedy "George Lopez" and in Dimension's "The Adventures of Shark Boy and Lava Girl in 3-D," opening Friday. Lopez, who's been performing standup comedy for more than two decades, will appear Sunday at the U CityWalk's Gibson Amphitheater in Hollywood.
