The Adventures of Shark Boy and Lava Girl in 3-D: According to Variety, George Lopez will star in The Adventures of Shark Boy and Lava Girl in 3-D, the Robert Rodriguez-helmed family pic for Dimension. The pic marks the filmmaker's first feature collaboration with Lopez, who stars in ABC's "George Lopez" skein.

Rodriguez wrote the script and is directing the film, which has already been earmarked for a June 10, 2005 release date by Miramax co-chairman Bob Weinstein.

Lopez will be joined by newcomers Taylor Dooley, Taylor Lautner and Cayden Boyd.

The film is an empowerment tale about a 10-year-old outcast shunned by classmates and forced to spend summer vacation alone. With his two imaginary friends (the title characters), he goes on a mission to prove dreams can become reality.

Rodriguez is shooting the film at his Troublemaker Studios in Austin, Texas, where he and Frank Miller just directed the ensemble drama "Sin City," to be released April 1.
