Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures have hired screenwriter David S. Goyer to pen the script for their upcoming monster remake Godzilla.

The writer has a longstanding relationship with both Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures from his work on superhero fare such as Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, The Dark Knight Rises, and Man of Steel. David S. Goyer will be reworking the original script by Dave Callaham.

We reported back in January that Monsters director Gareth Edwards is taking the helm on Godzilla. Producer Brian Rogers revealed back in September that Godzilla will stay close to the creature feature's original roots, while giving it a modern feel for today's audience.

At the time of that September report, Legendary and Warner Bros. were aiming for a 2012 release date, although that seems unlikely now that more script work is being done.
