The Exorcism of Emily Rose director Scott Derrickson has been hired by Relativity Media to retell the classic bible story David vs. Goliath in a new big screen adaptation simply called Goliath.

The family adventure will be a period piece with contemporary sensibilities. The screenplay was written by John D. Payne and Patrick McKay, with a story that follows a young Shepard named David who is set on an epic chase to save his own life and the lives of his people when the fierce warrior Goliath begins tracking down a foretold king of the Israelites. David and Goliath will battle in the climax as foretold by the original tale.

The look of the project is said to be in the same vein as 300, with an action feel reminiscent of The Bourne Identity. No start date was given at this time.
