Deadline confirms that director Gore Verbinski will direct The Lone Ranger for Walt Disney Pictures.

Back in late September, we reported that Gore Verbinski was in negotiations to direct the upcoming reboot. Now it seems the director has finally closed a deal for the movie. The director will reunite with Johnny Depp, who'll portray Tonto. Gore Verbinski directed Depp in the first three Pirates of The Caribbean movies: Pirates of The Caribbean: The Curse of The Black Pearl, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest and Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End.

It isn't clear when production will start on The Lone Ranger, or who will play the title character. Jerry Bruckheimer is producing and, as we reported back in February, Revolutionary Road screenwriter Justin Haythe is writing the screenplay.
