Fans of the hit Fox TV series Gotham will have to find something else to do on Monday nights for the next six weeks, as the show goes on hiatus before it returns to close out Season 1 with the final stretch of episodes starting April 13. The show was already given an early renewal for Season 2 back in January, but now it seems the show will be short at least one series regular this fall, as Jada Pinkett Smith isn't coming back. The actress appeared on Live with Kelly and Michael earlier today, where she revealed that her character Fish Mooney will not be sticking around next year. Here's what she had to say, when host Kelly Ripa asked if she was coming back for the second season:

"I don't think so, no. I signed for a year and the year is up. But there are some great things coming ahead on Gotham, believe you me. There's a lot of good stuff coming."

Jada Pinkett Smith's Fish Mooney is one of the few roles in Gotham that is not based on an existing DC Comics character. Over the past few episodes, the ruthless gangster hasn't even been in Gotham City, after having been abducted and taken to a mysterious facility somewhere in Europe run by Francis Dulmacher (Colm Feore), also known as The Dollmaker. While it isn't known if Fish will actually be killed off by the time Season 1 comes to an end, this story line could set up The Dollmaker as the primary villain for Season 2. However, Jada Pinkett Smith joked that Fish Mooney could pop up at any time.

"She could show up anywhere, you never know!"

The end of this week's episode "Everyone Has a Cobblepot" teased that Fish is somewhere far beyond the reach of her Gotham connections, as she has moved up the ranks to be Dulmacher's "right hand." Robin Taylor, who plays Fish's former lackey Oswald Cobblepot (the future Penguin) has become one of the show's breakout stars, and he could have a much bigger role in Season 2. Representatives for Fox and Warner Bros. Television have yet to comment on the actress' remarks, but we'll be sure to keep you posted as soon as we have an update.
