Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn took to his Twitter page yesterday to clear up rumors about his highly-anticipated sequel Guardians of the Galaxy 2. The filmmaker stated that, despite speculative reports, Captain Marvel will not appear in the sequel, nor will the Venom symbiotes. Here's what the director had to say.

"Getting this [question] a lot this morning. As I said months ago, no, [Captain Marvel] sorry."

When asked about the Venom symbiotes, James Gunn had this to say, teasing that only 6 people know which characters will appear in Guardians of the Galaxy 2.

"There are no rumors. Just guesses, which are fun. Only 6 of us know who's in GotG2."

These characters are just the latest to be shot down by the director, who has previously stated that others such as Gladiator of the Shi'ar Empire, Ronan the Accuser, Bug, Rom: Spaceknight, and Nova/Richard Rider. Of course, Captain Marvel is getting a stand alone movie slated for release in 2018, but the character has not been cast at this time. The filmmaker did tease that one of his favorite Marvel characters will be featured in the sequel, but he would not reveal who that character is. There is speculation that it could be Starhawk, since the filmmaker mentioned that Starhawk and Annihilus are his favorite Marvel characters while doing press for Guardians of the Galaxy. 20th Century Fox owns the rights to Annihilus, so its unlikely that character will show up in the sequel, but it may be Starhawk. Take a look at the director's tweets below.
