When Marvel announced their entire Phase 3 slate last week, a number of new movies were confirmed, such as Black Panther, Captain Marvel and Inhumans. The studio also pushed their sequel Guardians of the Galaxy 2 up from July 28, 2017 to May 5, 2017, with Guardians of the Galaxy filmmaker James Gunn returning to write and direct. During a new interview with IndieWire, the filmmaker revealed that he already has ideas for Guardians of the Galaxy 3.

"To be honest, I had the basic story for number two while I was working on number one, and perhaps even beyond that. So it's gonna answer a lot of questions that are proposed in the first one, and we'll be able to get to know some of the characters we didn't get to know in the first one a little bit more, and we might meet a few new characters too."

He also continued to joke about killing off all the main characters in the opening moments of Guardians of the Galaxy 2. Here's what he had to say, when asked if he could reveal the entire plot.

"Yeah, sure. We open up on a Mission: Impossible scenario where all the characters die..."

Of course, Guardians of the Galaxy 3 hasn't been officially announced yet, but given the success of Guardians of the Galaxy, which has earned $765 million worldwide, it seems likely that a third movie will be given the green light after Guardians of the Galaxy 2 hits theaters in the summer of 2017.

The director has already teased that Guardians of the Galaxy 2 will deal with Peter Quill's daddy issues, and that Star-Lord's father will be different than the comics. As for Guardians of the Galaxy 3, we have no clue about what the story may revolve around yet, but stay tuned for more updates.
