Back in June, production wrapped on Marvel's highly-anticipated Phase 3 sequel Guardians of the Galaxy 2, which is set to kick off the summer movie season on May 5, 2017. As is the case with most big-budget productions, reshoots are to be expected, and today Guardians 2 star Karen Gillan revealed through social media that she is going back to work on this superhero sequel. It hasn't been confirmed how long these reshoots will last, or where they are taking place, but the bulk of principal photography happened in Atlanta earlier this year.

Karen Gillan, who reprises her role as Nebula from Guardians of the Galaxy, revealed this latest news on her Twitter, stating that she's "so excited to be back with the gang". She also hinted through two long hashtags that these will be the "easiest reshoots ever," because "The movie is already insanely good". It isn't known at this time who else was brought back for reshoots.

This news comes just hours after we learned that one of the most important characters in this sequel, Ego the Living Planet (Kurt Russell) almost wasn't in the movie. During a Q&A session, Deadpool writer Rhett Reese revealed that 20th Century Fox let go of the Ego rights as part of a trade with Marvel Studios, to allow Fox to change the Negasonic Teenage Warhead (Brianna Hildenbrand) character for Deadpool. Director James Gunn confirmed this story is true in a Facebook post today, saying he actually thought that Marvel owned the rights to Ego, before finding out that wasn't the case.

"Yes, this is true! When I first pitched Ego as Quill's father, I THOUGHT we owned the character. After I had worked out a very elaborate story with Ego the Living Planet as a very important part of the Marvel cosmic universe, I learned that we actually didn't own the character. I had no back up plan, and it would be nearly impossible to just drop another character in. Thank God Fox came to us and wanted to make a trade..."

The director didn't mention anything on social media about reshoots today, but perhaps we'll get more updates soon as the additional photography takes shape. Guardians of the Galaxy stars Chris Pratt (Star-Lord), Dave Bautista (Drax the Destroyer), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), Vin Diesel (Groot) and Bradley Cooper (Rocket Raccoon) all return along with Karen Gillan, Michael Rooker (Yondu) and Sean Gunn (Kraglin), along with a slew of new characters. Pom Klementieff makes her MCU debut as Mantis, alongside Elizabeth Debicki as Ayesha, Chris Sullivan as Taserface and Tommy Flanagan as Tullik. Take a look at Karen Gillan's tweet below, along with another tweet from James Gunn further explaining the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 character trade between Marvel Studios and 20th Century Fox.
