Last week, a popular fan theory about Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 arose. And it positioned the idea that Kurt Russell, Sylvester Stallone and Sharon Stone are all playing the original Guardians first introduced in the Marvel comic books way back in 1969. Director James Gunn, who is usually quite outspoken on social media, has not personally chimed in on this idea, but today we get the official plot synopsis for the sequel. And boy, does it ever sound like this is what might be happening. Here is the story as it stand, with this short teaser promising the arrival of some classic Marvel characters.

"Set to the backdrop of 'Awesome Mixtape #2,' Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 continues the team's adventures as they traverse the outer reaches of the cosmos. The Guardians must fight to keep their newfound family together as they unravel the mysteries of Peter Quill's true parentage. Old foes become new allies and fan-favorite characters from the classic comics will come to our heroes' aid as the Marvel cinematic universe continues to expand."

The fan theory from last week positions the idea that Sharon Stone is playing original Guardians member Nikki, who has the ability to withstand very high heat and radiation and is an excellent sharp shooter. That then points to Sly potentially playing Charlie-27, who is a very large, muscle bound space soldier with superhuman strength. And Michael Rooker, who played Peter Quill's surrogate father of sorts in the first movie, is Yondu, also one of the original members of the team. Many believe that Kurt Russell will be playing Starhawk, who could be Star-Lord's real dad. As you can see from the official plot synopsis, this will be a key part of the plot unspooling next summer.

Marvel has also released an updated plot synopsis for Doctor Strange. This new improved rundown of the story claims the Sorcerer Supreme will be out to protect the entire MCU. Does that mean he'll return to fight in Avengers: Infinity War Part 1? We believe it does, and it's likely that the movie will also introduce the Eye of Agamotto, which many believe to be the Time Stone that Thanos is searching for. Here is the new, improved plot break down for Doctor Strange.

"Marvel's Doctor Strange follows the story of the talented neurosurgeon Doctor Stephen Strange who, after a tragic car accident, must put ego aside and learn the secrets of a hidden world of mysticism and alternate dimensions. Based in New York City's Greenwich Village, Doctor Strange must act as an intermediary between the real world and what lies beyond, utilizing a vast array of metaphysical abilities and artifacts to protect the Marvel cinematic universe."

While these new plot synopses don't really tell us anything new, they do tease the widening worlds of which are about to collide. It's very possible in the next few years that we'll see Star-Lord and his team fighting along side Doctor Strange. The MCU is about to get a whole lot bigger, and that is pretty exciting. Both of these upcoming Marvel Phase 3 movies will be showing off new footage and other surprises at Comic-Con 2016 as it kicks of in San Diego this July.
