Director James Gunn is currently working on the script for Marvel's highly-anticipated follow-up Guardians of the Galaxy 2, which is currently set for release on May 5, 2017. While it may be quite some time before we know exactly who is returning, besides the Guardians themselves, Michael Rooker will almost certainly be back as Yondu, especially given how Guardians of the Galaxy ends, with the blue-skinned character teasing the identity of Peter Quill's (Chris Pratt) father. During an interview with Screen Rant, Michael Rooker was asked about the possibility of Yondu coming to Earth in this Marvel Phase Three follow-up. Here's what he had to say below.

"I feel earth is very intriguing. When I was doing the role, I was intrigued by the fact that Yondu has an accent. Yondu speaks English. Yondu likes all these earthling trinkets. He is very intrigued by the earth and everything about it. So it's interesting. I think it's an interesting place. I think Yondu [laughs] really finds it quite entertaining. But it looks like he likes to collect these little deals from around the galaxy. He collected Peter Quill and a number of other little earthling kind of trinkets. I'm excited to get the opportunity to discover more about Yondu myself. So we'll be doing that together in Guardians 2."

Yondu is one of the more complex characters in Guardians of the Galaxy, since he most certainly comes off as a villain at times, as a killer and a ruthless scavenger, but he also has a soft spot for Peter Quill. When asked if he Yondu is "good or bad," the actor revealed that Yondu would pick whichever side is more profitable for him.

"I think Yondu would pick the side that best suits him and probably what would garner him to have the most wages and the best... Yondu is this kind of character that, for his whole life, he's worked for himself. And he's taught Peter Quill to do the same. Star-Lord has a lot of Yondu mixed in with him. You know what? Hard to say. I'm going to see what occurs with Guardians 2 and we'll see what happens. It has the potential of going either way and a little mixture of both. Who knows?"

We learned even before the first movie came out that the sequel will deal with Star-Lord's "daddy issues," with James Gunn revealing last month that we will find out who Quill's father is, but he doesn't want to keep the big reveal shrouded in mystery. The filmmaker has also confirmed in August that Quill's father in the sequel will not be J'son, who was Star-Lord's father in the comics.
