Will AeroSmith frontman Steven Tyler go toe-to-toe with Star-Lord and the gang in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3? Perhaps. It all depends on whether or not James Gunn, who has directed the first two movies, will return to finish what he started. The filmmaker hasn't decided just yet. But if he does climb back aboard the Milano, we can expect to see Tyler in some sort of role, whether it be man, alien or the voice of a cosmic talking animal.

While Steven Tyler hasn't acted much in recent years, he is appearing in the new horror thriller Happy Birthday alongside a group of young up and coming actors. And he's definitely been bitten by the acting bug. The singer hopes to continue his new found love for the craft. When asked if there was any upcoming movies he'd love to audition for, Steven Tyler's response was swift, as though he'd been hoping someone would ask.

"I would do anything to be in 'Guardians of the Galaxy 3' - are you listening James Gunn?"

As it turns out, James Gunn was listening to the former American Idol judge, as the man with the iconic lips threw his hat into the Marvel ring. During another Facebook Q&A, Gunn reminded everyone that he actually directed Steven Tyler's daughter Liv Tyler in the psychological superhero horror comedy Super, and would jump at the chance to work with the Aerosmith singer. He says this.

"Yes, I did hear that Steven Tyler wants to be in 'Guardians of the Galaxy.' He gave me a shout-out the other day in an interview. He said, 'James Gunn are you listening?' The answer is: Steven, yes I am listening. And I'm a big fan of Steven Tyler's. I had the pleasure of directing his daughter Liv in a movie ["Super" in 2010] in which she was fantastic, and I met him for a few seconds at a screening of that movie. He's a cool guy. And of course I would love to work with Steven Tyler sometime."

As you can see, James Gunn doesn't immediately say he'd like to cast Steven Tyler in Guardians of the Galaxy 3, and there's a good reason for that. At this time, Gunn doesn't know if he wants to return for the trilogy ending sequel. He just recently wrapped on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and in a sane world, he'd probably not even like to be discussing another sequel before the next one is in theaters. He is undecided at this point on whether he will return for more Star-Lord adventures. James Gunn later said this on Twitter.

"If I did Vol 3, sure. I love @IamStevenT. Love his work & he's a very warm guy."

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will kick off the 2017 summer movie-going season. Though it is still almost a year away, Marvel head honcho Kevin Feige did confirm that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will be one of the movies included in their Phase 4 line-up, which doesn't kick off until the start of the next decade (which, to be fair is just a few years away). In the mean time, Steven Tyler has quite a few days to put a few more films under his belt. At this stage, it sounds just a little too early to say he's a lock for Guardians 3.
