Last month, we reported that actors Joel Edgerton, Jim Sturgess, Jack Huston, Lee Pace, and Eddie Redmayne signed testing deals to try out for the coveted role of Peter Quill in Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy. Today, we have word that only one of those actors, Jim Sturgess, remains in consideration for the part, with Chuck star Zachary Levi emerging as another top contender.

While Zachary Levi's inclusion comes slightly out of left field, Marvel has been pleased with his work as Fandral on Thor: The Dark World. We reported in June that the actor replaced Joshua Dallas, who was forced to bow out because of his commitment to the ABC series Once Upon a Time.

Peter Quill was born as the son of a human mother and an alien father, who became an astronaut for NASA. After learning who his father was, he disappeared into space where he transformed himself into the Star-Lord, an interplanetary policeman who serves as the Guardians of the Galaxy's leader.

James Gunn is directing from his own screenplay. It isn't known when production may begin.
