Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows director Guy Ritchie has signed on to direct The Man from U.N.C.L.E. for Warner Bros., with his producer Lionel Wigram boarding the project as well.

Steven Soderbergh had previously been attached to the project, but recently dropped out due to casting difficulties and budgetary issues. George Clooney was set to star before pulling out in August.

Scott Z. Burns wrote the screenplay, which is adapted from The Man from U.N.C.L.E. TV series that ran from 1964 to 1968. The show followed the United Network Command for Law Enforcement (U.N.C.L.E.), which protected Earth from the evil organization Technological Hierarchy for the Removal of Undesirables and the Subjugation of Humanity (THRUSH).
