Gwyneth Paltrow and Ewan McGregor are in talks to star alongside Johnny Depp in the crime drama Mortdecai.

Based on the novel The Great Mortdecai Moustache Mystery by Kyril Bonfiglioli, the story centers around an art dealer named Charles Mortdecai (Johnny Depp), who goes out in search of a stolen painting rumored to contain the code that provides access to hidden Nazi gold. No details were given for Gwyneth Paltrow and Ewan McGregor's characters. We first reported on the project earlier this month when Johnny Depp signed on to star.

David Koepp is directing from an adapted screenplay by Eric Aronson (The Lone Ranger), with Johnny Depp producing alongside Christi Dembrowski and Andrew Lazar. Production is slated to begin in the fourth quarter of this year, after Johnny Depp wraps on the Disney musical Into the Woods.

Gwyneth Paltrow most recently starred in Marvel's Iron Man 3, and she will next be seen in Thanks for Sharing. Ewan McGregor is coming off the fantasy adventure Jack the Giant Slayer, and he next stars in August: Osage County this fall.
