Emilia Clarke is heading to a galaxy far, far away and she's going to meet Han and Chewie. According to a new report, the star is joining the cast of the Han Solo movie as the female lead. This report is coming directly from the Star Wars camp, so it is as official as it gets.

StarWars.com has announced that Emilia Clarke, best known for her portrayal of Daenerys Targaryen in Game of Thrones, will join the upcoming untitled Han SoloStar Wars movie. Clarke's role will help round out an already dynamic cast of characters that Han and Chewie will encounter on their adventures during the earlier period of Han Solo's life. There were no additional details given on her character at this time.

Emilia Clarke joins Alden Ehrenreich and Donald Glover - previously cast as Han Solo and Lando Calrissian, respectively - in the highly-anticipated movie. This still untitled Han Solo anthology movie is set prior to the original Star Wars trilogy, happening ten years prior in the official Star Wars timeline. The upcoming Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is also taking place before the events of the original trilogy, with both movies bumping up close to the events of Star Wars: A New Hope.

As for who Emilia Clarke will be playing? That is a bit hard to say. Disney decided to reset the official Star Wars canon when they purchased Lucasfilm back in 2012, so there is less lore to choose from at this point. It is possible she could be playing another smuggler of some sort, but perhaps the best option is a character named Sana Starros. She was a character who claimed to be married to Han Solo in the comics and has been rumored to appear in the Han Solo movie. The only potential issue is that in the comics, she is a person of color and Emilia Clarke is not. Disney likely doesn't want to get caught up in another whitewashing controversy. Or it is possible she is playing an entirely new character written specifically for the movie. We will have to wait and see. It was revealed yesterday that Han Solo was once married to a Wookie, but this plot line may still be too controversial.

Han Solo: A Star Wars Story is being helmed by directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who are best known for directing 21 and 22 Jump Street, as well as The LEGO Movie. With the addition of Emilia Clarke, this movie is really shaping up to be something Star Wars fans can really get excited about. The untitled Han Solo movie is currently set for release on May 25, 2018.
