We reported back in 2008 that writers/directors Hayden Schlossberg and Jon Hurwitz were prepping a Christmas-themed follow-up to Harold and Kumar Escape From Guantanamo and now the film seems to be moving forward. Deadline New York is reporting that A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas is set to start production this summer.

Most notably, the start date marks the return of Kal Penn, who left Hollywood for Washington D.C. to take a post in President Barack Obama's administration as associate director of the White House Office of Public Engagement. The site reports that Penn agreed to commit to the job for at least a year, and now it seems he will return alongside John Cho for the film.

The site reported that a director will be hired shortly and that Warner Bros. is eyeing a holiday 2011 release for the film.
