The cast of Warner Bros.' Harry Potter spinoff Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is starting to come together, with Deadline reporting that Dan Fogler has signed on to star alongside Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Ezra Miller and Alison Sudol. The actor will portray Jacob, a "muggle" (non-magician) who befriends Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) during his adventures in New York City. It isn't known how many more primary roles are left to be cast at this time.

Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling makes her screenwriting debut with Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, which is set 70 years before the Harry Potter books, centering on magizoologist Newt, who goes on a journey to chronicle magical creatures. Katherine Waterston is playing the female lead Tina, with Ezra Miller portraying the magical Kredan and Alison Sudol playing Tina's younger sister Queenie. In the Harry Potter movies, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is an actual textbook, written by Scamander, which Harry and his classmates use in their studies at Hogwarts.

David Yates, who directed the last four Harry Potter movies, is directing from J.K. Rowling's script, with the writer also producing alongside David Heyman, Steve Kloves and Lionel Wigram. It isn't known when production will begin, but Warner Bros. has already slated the spinoff for release on November 18, 2016. Dan Fogler most recently starred in Don Peyote, Barely Lethal and the ABC series Secrets & Lies.
