Fans of true crime will want to watch HBO’s newest series, The Staircase. The miniseries is based on the true-crime event involving the Peterson family. Back in 2001, Michael Peterson allegedly discovered his wife unconscious after falling down the stairs. He called the paramedics, but by the time they arrived, Kathleen was dead. However, her injuries proved consistent with homicide. Did Michael murder his wife to cash in on her $1.4 million life insurance, or was it the owl that scared her and caused her to simply fall down the stairs? This series will take a look into the events around the murder, the trial, and even the previous docuseries created about the murder.

The first three episodes will air Thursday, May 5, 2022, and then will move to one new episode a week, ending on June 9, 2022. The cast includes Toni Collette and Colin Firth as Mr. and Mrs. Peterson. They are joined by other big names such as Sophie Turner, Michael Stuhlburg, and Parker Posey. For those who want to research the events outlined in this fictional adaptation, the original docuseries, which is referenced in the dramatized series, of the murder is available to stream on Netflix under the same name, The Staircase.

Hacks is an HBO original series that explores the relationship between a legendary comedian and an entitled outcast. Deborah Vance, played by Jean Smart, is a Las Vegas comedian who mentors the 25-year-old Ava, played by Hannah Einbinder. Often described as bold and brashy, this comedic series is more than just an unwanted mentorship, it's a story of showbiz and insecurities for creative people.

The first two episodes of season two will air on May 12, with two new episodes released each week until June 2, 2022. The first season of the show earned 15 Emmy nominations and three wins including Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for Smart, Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series, and Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series. Each episode is around 30 minutes long, making it an easy show to get hooked onto. Smart steals each scene, and her chemistry with Einbinder makes this show deserving of its Emmys.
