It's been 12 years since the beloved Hellboy movie and eight years since its follow-up Hellboy II: The Golden Army. While neither movie was a box office hit, they were both widely beloved, with fans still clamoring for Hellboy 3 eight years later. There has been little to no progress on the sequel up until this point, and now it seems unlikely to even happen at all, according to star Ron Perlman.

Last month, Ron Perlman revealed in a new interview that he was basically the only one who was working on Hellboy 3, stating that he's still trying to make this long-awaited project happen. Unfortunately, the actor revealed in a new interview with Screen Rant that he never talks about the project with director Guillermo del Toro anymore, because they're both too busy. Here's what he had to say below.

"We don't talk about that anymore. Because he's busy, and I'm busy. Maybe one day he's going to call and say, 'Hey, let's do it.' But for right now? We're happy discovering new worlds to conquer."

Director Guillermo del Toro teased at Comic-Con in 2015 that Hellboy 3 actually may happen, if is next project Pacific Rim 2 is a hit at the box office. Then again, that was before he actually dropped out as director, with Steven DeKnight taking the helm on the project. Guillermo del Toro is still on board as a producer and he also worked on the script with Travis Beacham, Zak Penn, Derek Connolly and Jon Spaihts. One potential financier may be Legendary Pictures, who Guillermo del Toro said may financially back the project if the director's sequel Pacific Rim 2, slated for release on August 4, 2017, but now it seems this isn't happening.

Ron Perlman has also teased in the past that Guillermo del Toro has hashed out the broad strokes of the movie, teasing in another interview that the filmmaker had big plans for The Twins in this potential sequel. However, now it seems that it won't happen, although maybe the filmmaker could just hand over the reins to another director, like he did with Pacific Rim 2. Hopefully we'll have more updates on Hellboy 3 soon, but it seems unlikely this will happen soon.
