John Ridley, who won an Oscar earlier this year for writing the Best Picture winner 12 Years a Slave, makes his directorial debut with the new Jimi Hendrix biopic Jimi: All Is by My Side, starring André Benjamin. XLRator Media has released the first trailer and five new photos from this musical drama, which explores one year in Jimi Hendrix's life, where he went from playing backup guitar in a New York club to the verge of music greatness, after his performance at the Monterey Pop Festival. Imogen Poots, Hayley Atwell and Ruth Negga co-star in this drama that shows how a rock and roll star is born, arriving in theaters September 26.

Outkast's André Benjamin stars as Jimi Hendrix in this revealing biopic from Academy Award-winning writer-director John Ridley (12 Years a Slave). Covering a year in Hendrix's life from 1966-67 as an unknown backup guitarist playing New York's Cheetah Club to making his mark in London's music scene up until his Monterey Pop triumph, the film presents an intimate portrait of the sensitive young musician on the verge of becoming a rock legend.
