According to Dark Horizons, legendary Japanese director Hideo Nakata is helming the upcoming US The Ring sequel, taking on the Hollywood franchise based on his Japanese originals.

In an interview with Bloody Digusting, he briefly revealed the main new thing he tried in this film:

"We experimented with a lot of special and visual effects in making water look scary. Basically, the challenge was in controlling the water through means of physical effects, which is difficult to do in Japan."

He also confirmed none of the original Japanese series stuff is in this sequel, and he has heard nothing yet about a third US film in the series.

The Entity, a re-make of the original 1981 movie of the same name is up next for him. Supposedly based on a true story, The Entity centers on a women who awakens one night to find herself being beaten and raped by an unseen presence. Terrified of what's happening to her, she is shunned by friends and family who think she's gone crazy. She finally seeks help from parapsychologists who discover that an evil spiritual force has been drawn to her and is indeed responsible for the violent attacks.

Nakata also has

"a few projects in development here in America. Two are horror and one is a suspense thriller. In Japan I have two traditional ghost story movies".
