Summit Entertainment has hired visual effects supervisor Cedric Nicolas-Troyan to direct their upcoming reboot of Highlander. Juan Carlos Fresnadillo was previously attached to direct with Ryan Reynolds starring. Both have since departed the project.

The original project centered the immortal Scottish swordsman Connor MacLeod (Christopher Lambert). He is mentored by Ramirez (Sean Connery) and spends centuries dueling other immortal rivals. After taking out most of his kind, he find himself fighting for his life against the murderously brutal barbarian Kurgan (Clancy Brown). They fight to become the final remaining immortal, who will influence the future of mankind.

Cedric Nicolas-Troyan is directing from a script by Iron Man writers Art Marcum and Matt Holloway. Neal H. Mortiz, Peter Davis and Justin Lin will be producing.
