Director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (Intruders) is parting ways with Summit Entertainment's Highlander remake. Ryan Reynolds is still attached to star.

The filmmaker first signed on last September, after Justin Lin bowed out to make The Fast and the Furious 6. The director left due to creative differences with the studio, who both had differing takes on the project. Iron Man writers Art Marcum and Matt Holloway wrote the screenplay, with Neal H. Moritz, Peter S. Davis, Enrique López Lavigne and Belén Atienza producing.

The story centers on Connor McLeod (Ryan Reynolds), a Scotsman who is among the last of immortal warriors known as Highlanders, who can only die if their heads are cut off. It isn't clear if there are any front runners to replace Juan Carlos Fresnadillo at this time.
