Last weekend, director Rob Zombie returned with a new horror-thriller entitled 31, which is currently playing in select theaters and available on VOD formats. Some fans are still waiting for an extended edition of his directorial debut, House of 1000 Corpses. But those fans seemingly shouldn't hold their breath for this to come out. The director spoke about this long-awaited extended edition in a recent interview, and it seems it may never be released.

Rob Zombie first rose to fame as the lead singer of the rock group White Zombie, and he would often direct his own music videos for the band, including one for the group's breakout hit "More Human Than Human." In 2003, Rob Zombie made his feature directorial debut with House of 1000 Corpses, which was hardly a critical (19% on Rotten Tomatoes) or a commercial ($16.8 million worldwide from a $7 million budget) success, but it would go on to be a cult classic. Fangoria recently caught up with Rob Zombie, who revealed the sad news that the extended edition of House of 1000 Corpses will likely never see the light of day, because he doesn't know where the extra footage is.

"I don't think it ever will [be released], because I don't think anyone knows where any of it is, truthfully. Even when they put together the DVD, which was 13 years ago, we couldn't find anything because they had shot two hundred interviews in the time since the shoot. We had behind-the-scenes stuff, make-up tests, all these different things, and nobody could find it. It was all lost. That's why I think whatever exists is all that's going to ever exist."

House of 1000 Corpses followed four college-age kids driving cross-country, researching a book on weird roadside attractions, such as the 'World's Biggest Ball of String' and the 'Bigfoot Museum.' They stumble upon this place called 'Captain Sapulding's Museum of Monsters and Madmen,' a serial killer museum out in the middle of nowhere, where they learn about a local murderer called Dr. Satan, who himself was killed not too far away. Once these kids decide to investigate even further, their lives are turned upside down after encountering a family of backwater killers.

Sid Haig starred as Captain Spaulding in House Of 1000 Corpses, with the supporting cast including Chad Bannon, William Bassett, Karen Black, Erin Daniels, Judith Drake, Dennis Fimple, Bill Mosely, Rainn Wilson, Walton Goggins and Chris Hardwick. Rob Zombie followed up House of 1000 Corpses with the The Devil's Rejects in 2005, before directing the 2007 Halloween remake and its 2009 sequel Halloween II. The filmmaker is currently working on a Groucho Marx biopic.
