Superbunnies: Uber-swinger, and Playboy Magazine founder, Hugh Hefner will reportedly be teaming up with comic book legend and creator of The Hulk, The X-Men, Daredevil, Spider Man and The Fantastic Four Stan Lee to produce Hef's Superbunnies, an adult-themed cartoon tentatively scheduled to appear on MTV.

The project came about after Lee, who – as odd as it sounds is apparently an old pal of Hefner’s, pitched him the idea for a animated series set in the “Playboy universe” and Hef liked what he heard. Executives at MTV commissioned a pilot and the comic book mastermind immediately set to work on it.

The proposed series will follow the fantastic adventures of a silk pajama-clad superhero as he lays nightly smack-downs on criminals with the help of his bevy of lovely sidekicks-- buxom and specially trained Bunnies. (but trained to do what precisely, one’s forced to wonder)

Lee's new production shingle, Pow! Entertainment, will be co-producing Superbunnies alongside Playboy's Alta Loma Entertainment division.

MTV has so far refused to comment on the project, but Hefner has said that the series will give him a chance to show off a side few have seen. And, aside from providing his animated alter ego's name and likeness, Hugh may also lend his distinctive voice to the four-color goings on.

"Stan and I go back a long ways, and he simply felt it was time for me to reveal my secret identity," Hefner tells told The Hollywood Reporter. "You all know me as the editor-in-chief and publisher of Playboy. But late at night when everyone assumes I'm in the grotto living the good life, I'm out there with the Superbunnies fighting evildoers."

Hefner, who’s called Lee one of his heroes, says that he's been a comic book aficionado ever since he began reading Superman comics when he was a child in the 1930s and '40s. He eventually struck up a friendship with Lee in the late '50s and '60s, during the latter's golden years at Marvel Comics.

"This project is going to be a lot of fun," Hefner said. "It's going to be more than just an action show. It's going to be very satirical with a lot of cutting-edge aspects to it."

Hef’s Superbunnies is currently slated to make its scantily clad debut on MTV sometime in 2005.
