Two well-liked shows have just been given the ax by Netflix. The streaming service has canceled both I Am Not Okay with This and The Society. Both shows had been set to get a second season, with The Society season 2 announced last summer. However, uncertainty brought on by the current situation the world finds itself in has prevented the projects from moving forward.

According to multiple reports, I Am Not Okay With This season 2 hadn't been announced but the show was renewed by Netflix. Work had already begun on the new episodes. The Society, meanwhile, had planned to start filming next month for a possible late 2020 premiere. Yet, due to uncertainties surrounding production right now, the streaming service opted to cancel the shows. A Netflix spokesperson had this to say about it.

"We've made the difficult decision not to move forward with second seasons of 'The Society' and 'I Am Not Okay With This,' We're disappointed to have to make these decisions due to circumstances created by COVID, and we are grateful to these creators, including: Jonathan Entwistle, Christy Hall, Shawn Levy, Dan Levine, Dan Cohen and Josh Barry at 21 Laps Entertainment for 'I Am Not Okay With This;' Chris Keyser, Marc Webb and Pavlina Hatoupis for 'The Society;' and all the writers, casts and crews who worked tirelessly to make these shows for our members around the world."

I Am Not Okay With This debuted earlier this year, with IT star Sophia Lillis in the lead role. The show, which hails from Jonathan Entwistle, follows a teenage girl navigating high school while she deals with the complexities of her family, budding sexuality and mysterious superpowers she is just discovering. Wyat Oleff, Sofia Bryant, Aidan Wojtak-Hissong, Richard Ellis, and Kathleen Rose Perkins also starred.

The Society served as a modern take on the literary classic Lord of the Flies. The show follows a group of teenagers who are mysteriously transported to a different version of their wealthy New England town, but one that includes no trace of their parents. They struggle to figure out what has happened to them and how to get home and are forced to establish order and form alliances to survive. The cast included Kathryn Newton, Gideon Adlon, Sean Berdy, Natasha Liu Bordizzo, Jacques Colimon, Olivia DeJonge, Alex Fitzalan, Kristine Froseth, José Julian and Alex MacNicoll. Chris Keyser created the series.

Unfortunately, as the industry continues to contend with the situation, this may become a common occurrence. While some shows and movies have managed to get production up and running again, there is still a great deal of risk and much to be worked out as things evolve. Plus, productions are incurring greater expense as a result of increased safety measures. Studios and streaming services need to take that into account when pressing forward with projects now. Not only that, but scheduling issues will continue to emerge as actors and filmmakers sort out delayed projects bumping up against other commitments. This news comes to us via Deadline.
