According to The Hollywood Reporter, David Morrissey and Idris Elba are joining Hilary Swank in The Reaping for Warner Bros. Pictures and Village Roadshow Pictures.
Dark Castle and Chime Films are co-financing, while Joel Silver, Robert Zemeckis, Susan Levin and Herb Gains are producing.
The story centers on a university professor (Swank) who debunks miracles. She is summoned to a small Louisiana town by a man (Morrissey) to investigate a series of bizarre occurrences that appear to be the 10 biblical plagues. Swank begins to fall for Morrissey but soon learns that he is not all that he appears.
Elba will play a scientist and Swank's partner.
Morrissey, who recently completed shooting the lead role opposite Sharon Stone in Basic Instinct 2: Risk Addiction, stars opposite Clive Owen and Jennifer Aniston in Miramax's upcoming Derailed. The actor also stars in the Rolling Stones biopic Stoned, which premiered Friday at the Edinburgh Film Festival.
London native Elba, who was a mainstay in British theater and TV, is best known for his three-year stint as Baltimore drug lord Stringer Bell on HBO's "The Wire". He also starred in HBO Films' Sometimes in April, which is set against the backdrop of the Rwandan genocide.
