Important news about "Important Things" comes today from COMEDY CENTRAL which has given a series pick-up to comedian Demetri Martin's new series, Important Things with Demetri Martin, it was announced by Lauren Corrao, executive vice president, original programming and development, COMEDY CENTRAL. The new series is tentatively scheduled to premiere during the second half of 2008.

Important Things with Demetri Martin is a stream-of-consciousness sketch and variety show from comedian Demetri Martin (The Daily Show With Jon Stewart). In each episode, Martin analyzes a single topic through the prism of his unique point of view. Topics covered might include everything from "What Happens After We Die" to "Apples."

"Demetri Martin is truly an original. He's the only guy that can take you on a hilarious journey on the importance of apples for thirty minutes and make you laugh and make you think," said Corrao. "He's a regular on 'The Daily Show With Jon Stewart', we've toured with him, done a CD together and a one-hour special. Obviously, we're huge fans of Demetri and Busboy and are extremely excited about taking the next step with them."

Voted one of the "25 Funniest People in America" by Entertainment Weekly, Martin (www.demetrimartin.com) is taking the comedy world by storm with his unique brand of humor. After leaving NYU Law School to pursue his career as a writer/comedian/artist/musician, the multi-talented comic has performed all across the country, most recently in the "COMEDY CENTRAL LIVE! Demetri Martin: These Are Jokes Tour" in support of his first stand-up CD/DVD "These Are Jokes," which was released via COMEDY CENTRAL Records in 2006.

His "Trendspotting with Demetri Martin" has been a featured segment on the Emmy(R) and Peabody(R) Award-winning The Daily Show With Jon Stewart since December 2005 and, prior to that, he performed and wrote for Late Night with Conan O'Brien.

Martin, a Yale graduate, was also featured in his own one-hour, stand-up special for COMEDY CENTRAL. Filmed at the Paramount Theater in Austin, TX, "Demetri Martin in Person." premiered in January 2007 and was released earlier this month on DVD by COMEDY CENTRAL Home Entertainment and Paramount Home Entertainment. Martin will appear in the upcoming feature films, The Rocker for Fox Atomic and Kids In America for Universal. He's also writing two feature scripts, "Will" for Dreamworks with Scott Armstrong producing and co-writing "Moon People" with James Bobin with Jimmy Miller producing.
