Independence Day 2 director Roland Emmerich took to his Twitter page yesterday to confirm two more cast members for his sequel, Brent Spiner and Joey King. Brent Spiner is reprising his role from the original 1996 classic Independence Day as Dr. Brackish Okun, although it isn't known who Joey King may be playing. In the original, Dr. Okun was one of the scientists working on a secret government program that examined the aliens that crashed several years before the invasion in the movie.

Brent Spiner and Joey King join a cast that includes original Independence Day stars Jeff Goldblum (David Levinson) and Vivica A. Fox (Jasmine Dubrow), with Bill Pullman's Thomas Whitmore expected to reprise his role as well. New cast members include Jessie Usher, Liam Hemsworth, Charlotte Gainsbourg and Travis Tope. Will Smith will not reprise his role as pilot Stephen Hiller for the sequel.

Roland Emmerich is directing from a screenplay most recently written by Carter Blanchard, with previous drafts written by Roland Emmerich, Dean Devlin and James Vanderbilt. Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin are also producing alongside Harald Kloser, although it isn't known when production will begin. 20th Century Fox has already set a June 24, 2016 release date, which is almost exactly 20 years after the original Independence Day hit theaters.

Brent Spiner most recently provided the voice of Gall Trayvis on Star Wars Rebels. His last feature film role was in 2010's Quantum Quest: A Cassini Space Odyssey. Joey King most recently starred in Wish I Was Here and in the first season of FX's Fargo.
