In one of the early scenes of the 1996 blockbuster Independence Day, massive alien ships were spotted above major cities all over the world, before their eminent attack decimated the planet. 20 years later, the aliens have returned, and it looks like their following a similar pattern, as we see in new posters for this summer's sequel Independence Day: Resurgence, arriving in theaters June 24. These one-sheets tease that four iconic landmarks will crumble when these nefarious aliens return in just under one month.

The posters, which surfaced from the Independence Day Movie Twitter page, feature Paris' Eiffel Tower, London's Big Ben, New York City's Statue of Liberty and Singapore's Esplanade all being destroyed by these alien invaders. We're not quite sure what other world landmarks the aliens will be targeting in this sequel, but it's certainly shaping up to be just as big as its predecessor. The original Independence Day took in $306.1 million domestically, which, when adjusted for inflation, equates to a $594.3 million movie today. These posters arrived just one day after an extended trailer offered even more footage from this sci-fi action sequel.

From director Roland Emmerich and producer Dean Devlin, 1996's Independence Day shattered opening weekend and total box office records, becoming the year's top-grossing film. It also became the first movie in history to gross over $500 million internationally. But Independence Day was just the beginning. We always knew they were coming back. After that film redefined the event movie genre, the next epic chapter in the Independence Day universe delivers a global spectacle on an unimaginable scale. Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have collaborated on an immense defense program to protect the planet. But nothing can prepare us for the aliens' advanced and unprecedented force. Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can bring our world back from the brink of extinction.

Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Judd Hirsch, Vivica A. Fox and Brent Spiner all reprise their roles from the original 1996 blockbuster. New additions to the cast for Independence Day: Resurgence include Liam Hemsworth, Angelababy, Maika Monroe, Sela Ward and Jessie Usher. This highly-anticipated sequel will make summer 2016 one to remember when it explodes onto screens worldwide June 24. The movie will square off against STX Entertainment's The Free State of Jones when it debuts next month.

One of the original Independence Day cast members who won't be returning is Will Smith, whose performance in the first movie helped put him on the map as an A-list movie star and a box office draw. We'll have to wait and see how Resurgence will fare without Will Smith leading the cast. Until then, check out these new posters below.
