‘Iron Man 3’ Eyes Ben Kingsley for Villain; He Will Not Play Mandarin

Ben Kingsley to play villain in Iron Man 3Ben Kingsley is in final negotiations to take on an important role in the upcoming Marvel sequel Iron Man 3 for director Shane Black.

The character Ben Kingsley will play has not been revealed, but sources are adamant that the Oscar-winning actor will not be playing fan favorite villain Mandarin. It is known that the persona he will take on is somehow tied into nanobot technology, and that he will be working against, not with, Tony Stark in this third chapter of the popular franchise.

Shane Black is writing the screenplay alongside Drew Pearce. Robert Downey Jr. will once again portray Tony Stark (aka Iron Man) for the fourth time, and Scarlett Johansson is expected to return as The Black Widow. The plot is rumored to revolve around the use of nanobots to replicate the super serum used to turn Steve Rogers into Captain America.

Iron Man 3 was released May 3rd, 2013.
