Director Bryan Singer's new project Jack the Giant Killer has been greenlit at New Line Cinema, with Deadline reporting that Kick-Ass star Aaron Johnson may headline the movie.

An offer hasn't been put out to the actor, who also recently starred as John Lennon in Nowhere Boy, but Bryan Singer does like the actor for the lead role. New Line is currently looking at a host of other younger actors as well.

Bryan Singer will direct from a script by Darren Lemke and Mark Bomback, although a recent rewrite by Christopher McQuarrie was mostly responsible for the project securing a green light.

Jack the Giant Killer, a variation on the fable Jack and the Beanstalk, centers on a young boy who must climb the beanstalk to slay a mighty giant. Production will begin sometime this spring.
