Fresh off his turn as an L.A.P.D. cop in End of Watch, Jake Gyllenhaal is in talks to star in Warner Bros.' Prisoners as a police detective.

Hugh Jackman stars as a carpenter and father in a small town, whose world is rocked when his young daughter and her best friend are kidnapped. When the local police fail to find his little girl, the man goes out to search for her himself. Jake Gyllenhaal will play a detective from the big city who takes over the case and tangles with the troubled dad. Melissa Leo also stars in an unspecified role.

Denis Villeneuve is directing from a screenplay by Aaron Guzikowski (Contraband). Alcon Productions partners Andrew A. Kosove and Broderick Johnson are producing with Kira Davis and Adam Kolbrenner.

Production is scheduled to start in early 2013, with a fall 2013 release date being targeted.
