On November 1st, it was slyly announced that Jamie Foxx is being eyed by Sony Pictures to play the villain Electro in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. The actor himself teased this news on his personal Twitter account that same day, and director Marc Webb confirmed the news later that week.
Now, Jamie Foxx is openly talking about this important role, which he confirms he is pursuing. The Academy Award-winning actor has not officially signed on to play Electro, whom many believe made an appearance during the end credit sequence of The Amazing Spider-Man. But he is excited about taking on this character, none the less.
Here is his official statement, where he states that he is taking on The Amazing Spider-Man 2 solely to make his daughter happy.
"I have a little daughter, 4 years old, and what's crazy is like, this past year she had a birthday where Spider-Man was the theme. I haven't sprung it on her yet, but she will go crazy! Fingers crossed it all works out."
Not to race bait, but while many speculate that the villain standing in The Lizard's jail cell at the end of The Amazing Spider-Man. is, in fact, Electro, it must be noted that this shadowy character is clearly a caucasian male. They did not go back and correct this on the Blu-ray that was released last week. This either means that the villain isn't Electro, or that they will be correcting this with CGI somewhere down the road. The timeline of the home video release and the news of this casting seems to indicate they knew what they were doing, though... So don't be surprised to find out there is another villain in the mix here.
