With the Veronica Mars movie moving towards its summer start date, after a record-breaking Kickstarter campaign helped push it into production, director Rob Thomas revealed that original series star Jason Dohring is returning as Logan Echols. Here's what the filmmaker had to say, in a post specifically for those who donated to the Kickstarter fund.

"Jason Dohring is officially on board for the Veronica Mars movie. We now have three actors officially cast. Veronica. Logan and the waiter who says, 'Your check, sir.' Don't worry. We're busily working on bringing your favorites into the fold. As a Veronica Mars backer, you'll be the first to know."

In case you're curious, the "waiter" role went to the one anonymous person who donated more than $10,000 to the budget. Kristen Bell reprises her title role, with Rob Thomas directing from his own screenplay.

Rob Thomas also revealed in another update from today that they are trying to break the record for the most amount of "backers" for a single project.

"We are in the home stretch now, Marshmallows!

And here's the new situation: our not-so-secret ambition is to have more backers than any Kickstarter drive in history. To do that we just need to get past Double Fine Adventure's 87,142 backers. We just need 23,000 more backers.

So, starting right now, we're adding an official $1 donor level, and we need your help to show everyone just what our fans can do. Get your friends to climb aboard, and help us make history! And starting today, Kickstarter backers are going to begin receiving exclusive for-your-eyes only content. You can get in on that with a simple $1 pledge! (And of course, if you've already donated, you're already on the exclusive update gravy wagon.) Plus, there'll be a backers-only treat tomorrow. I promise.

You guys are the best. Keep it up. Our love is epic."
