Gold Derby has learned that Oscar-winning actor Jeff Bridges will host the December 18 episode of Saturday Night Live.

The episode will fit right between the actor's two high-profile end-of-year holiday releases, with Tron: Legacy opening one day before the show on December 17, and his Western remake True Grit opening a week later on Christmas Day.

Jeff Bridges, who won an Oscar earlier this year for Best Actor in Crazy Heart, will be eligible for an Emmy award for this particular hosting gig.

It will be the first time Jeff Bridges has served as the solo host of Saturday Night Live. The first time he appeared was back in 1983, when he co-hosted with his brother, Beau Bridges. That span between hosting gigs, 27 years and 10 months, will set a new record, breaking Sigourney Weaver's hosting gap of 23 years and nine months.

There is no word on who the musical guest will be.
