Fans of Amazon’s chaotic and very adult superhero series The Boys have had quite a day today with the new teaser trailer dropping and bringing with it the announcement that the third season will premiere on Amazon Prime Video in June. As if that wasn’t enough, series newcomer Jensen Ackles took the opportunity to jump on his Instagram account and share a new behind the scenes image of his character Soldier Boy, who will join the bloody mayhem when the show returns and clearly isn’t going to arrive with a whimper.

Soldier Boy arrives in the comic books as a Captain America figure who has a very significant link to the “supes”, and it is fair to say that many fans are excited to see what the former Supernatural star’s take on the controversial character will be. Of course, Ackles’ appearance in The Boys also brings about a reunion with Supernatural creator Eric Kripke, who revealed to Vanity Fair about how the character was already created in the show before Jensen was cast. Explaining how it all came about, Kripke said:

"We had written Soldier Boy long before I cast Jensen. The majority of the guys we were looking at for that part were actually quite older than Jensen because it's a World War II hero. But it's so funny how these things sometimes happen. Jensen called me and I'm not on the show anymore but we keep in touch and text every so often. But he happened to call me and we were just chatting and I'm like well I'm prepping Season 3 of the show, and I have this character Soldier Boy, and it was a real pain in the to cast, and I haven't really found anyone. Hey, wait a minute, do you want to do it? I sent him the script, and he's like, oh my God, I totally want to do this. Less than a week later, he was cast. He just happened to call that day, is one of the big reasons he got that part."

Soldier Boy Will Bring All American Grit To The Boys In Season 3.

Jensen Ackles Reveals Soldier Boy Costume in The Boys
Amazon Studios

Back in June last year, almost exactly a year before what we now know to be the premiere date for the new season, Amazon Prime released the first full look at Jensen in his Soldier Boy costume which immediately had fans in a frenzy. At the time, Laura Jean Shannon, who developed the look of the character for the series with concept artist Greg Hopwood, explained to Variety what they hoped to achieve and how Jensen’s casting helped that out greatly. She said:

"Our goal was to highlight a bygone era of overt masculinity and grit. With that pedigree we dove headfirst into baking in an all-American quality grounded in a military soldier's practicality with a heavy dose of old school cowboy swagger. We knew that the actor had to have Steve McQueen looks and chops with a John Wayne attitude — luckily Jensen Ackles embodies all of that."

Hopefully, we will get to see Ackles in action in a future trailer sometime before The Boys Season 3 arrives on Amazon Prime Video on June 3rd.
