Jeremy Renner set to star in Kill the MessengerJeremy Renner has boarded Michael Cuesta's drama Kill the Messenger.

The film tells the true story of San Jose Mercury News reporter Gary Webb, who committed suicide after being the target of a smear campaign after uncovering a scheme the CIA was running to import cocaine into the U.S.

Peter Landesman penned the script from two books titled Dark Alliance: The CIA, The Contras, And The Crack Cocaine Explosion and Kill The Messenger: How The CIA's Crack-Cocaine Controversy Destroyed Journalist Gary Webb.

Michael Cuesta is directing the project with Scott Stuber attached to produce. No production schedule has been released.
