According to Variety, Warner Bros. has acquired Nancy Farmer's novel "House of the Scorpion" and set Jessica Postigo to write the script. The Henson Co.'s Lisa Henson and Kristine Belson will produce with Steven Pearl.

The futuristic storyline involves an aging drug lord who controls the poppy fields of Opium, a country located between the U.S. and Mexico. The youth he has raised as his son rebels when the teen discovers that he's a product of genetic engineering and that his surrogate father's feelings toward him are more Machiavellian than paternal.
