Jim Carrey and Adam Sandler Wanted for ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’

Adam Sandler being sought to play one of the Guardians of the Galaxy One of these days, Marvel Studios will have a cast in place for its Phase II ensemble Guardians of the Galaxy. Until then, we can only tell you who is being considered for these coveted roles. Today, a new report indicates that Marvel is seeking comedians Jim Carrey and Adam Sandler. It isn't clear what roles they are being eyed for.

Actors Wes Bentley, Cam Gigandet, and Chris Lowell have also recently tested for the Peter Quill (a.k.a. Star-Lord) role in this superhero adventure. Last month, we reported that Jim Sturgess and Zachary Levi were the finalists for the Star-Lord lead role. Since then, though, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Michael Rosenbaum tested for the part, and with these three new candidates, it remains to be seen as to who is now indeed the front runner.

James Gunn is directing from his own screenplay. We reported earlier this month that production will begin this summer at London's Shepperton Studios.

Guardians of the Galaxy was released August 1st, 2014.

      Why two comedians?

These guys need to tone down the comedy. Marvel is starting to lose it's credibility with all this comedy, while DC is still hanging off TDK and Nolan's man bits ready to make everything serious and brooding which has now become some false status quo since TDK Trilogy was huge.

I know not everything has to be so serious (heh) but the MCU doesn't need to be some big joke. Marvel needs to find that balance.

@ejk1 That works for me. I'd really love to see JGL and Joel Edgerton in the MCU at some point, and they were being considered for this role, but Pace works for me to play Quill because I think there are other characters those actors are better suited for.

@shuabert Lee Pace for Quill. That's my vote.

I can't imagine Marvel getting Sandler or Carrey. They're too highly paid for Marvel to go with them when they could get someone like Eddie Izzard at a way lower cost, if they're looking for a comedic actor.

Also, I can't imagine worse actors for Peter Quill than the ones on this list.

I'd have to with Carrey on this one, cant really imagine Billy Madison's voice coming out of Rocket Racoon " Hippity, hippity hooooo...Hippity, hippity, hoooooo" LoL

Was kind of hoping for someone like Hugh Laurie for RR

@bawnian-dexeus i understand what you mean, but there is a certain level of disbelief with those movies...even though Marvel has introduced extra-terrestrial characters everything has been grounded from a believable standpoint...if you introduce a completely CGI'd Raccoon that kicks ass you suddenly look at it like, "huh?"...

@justatadmatt I'm simply comparing talking animals in a live action setting.

@bawnian-dexeus do you really want to compare this franchise to Alvin and the Chipmunks, Narnia, and Dr. Dolittle?

...Homeward Bound is a classic, of course.

@justatadmatt Well, the way I see it, the average viewer in the last decade has already been exposed to movies like Alvin and the Chipmunks and Narnia. We can go back further to movies like Dr. Dolittle and Homeward Bound. I'm pretty sure moviegoers won't reject the movie because of a single character. Hell, he might not even speak English (though based on this article, he might) and be that humor relief or something along the lines. Besides, this movie is going to be more science fiction than superhero genre, so you can get away with talking amoebas for all the studio cares. Also, I believe there's a giant tree-like alien in this movie, so audiences whom have seen Lord of the Rings will be confortable with that character

@bawnian-dexeus if that's not sarcasm you have to look at it from the mindset of the average movie viewer. You will understand the purpose of Rocket Raccoon and his backstory, but someone sitting down and watching it for the first time will literally be like why is there a talking raccoon jumping around here? It won't make sense to them. It really comes down to how Gunn and possibly Whedon portray him, but I just feel like adding him to the line-up in Avengers would be a bad move.

...but I guess I could be completely wrong.

perfect! a moron is exactly what this movie needs. Let's just cast taylor lautner and nick swardson and flush this whole project down the toilet while we're at it.
