Three days ago, Hugh Jackman decided to share his impersonation of Jim Carrey's The Mask in an Instagram video that quickly went viral. The star of that 1994 classic has now responded, sparking one very hilarious social media war. Yes, as you will see in the photo below, Jim Carrey is The Wolverine, and he is threatening his impersonation opponent with some deadly cutlery.

It's The Wolverine Vs. The Mask in what will surely be remembered as a showdown for the ages (well, in actuality you'll probably forget about it before you get home from work tonight). They both wear yellow costumes, they are both impervious to injury, and they're both flamboyant and loud superheroes! And they obviously like taking the piss out of one another, using the world as their platform. Though, this is more on the funny side. Don't expect this jovial beef to break out in the streets of Los Angeles with guns and claws blazing.

Jim Carrey picked up the gauntlet thrown down by Hugh Jackman earlier this morning. The 53-year-old proved he still knows how to own juvenile humor better than most, as he posed for an X-Men selfie. The Canadian whisked his hair into the trademark Logan style, a hairdo he actually sported first in 1995's sequel Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls, a full five years before anyone even knew Hugh Jackman. He then tightened his neck muscles to give his best snarl. Using cutlery from his latest meal, he even brandished Wolverine's iconic claw, with a corkscrew added in for good measure. He boldly stated the following in response to the Australian legend's mocking.

"Nice move @RealHughJackman Now watch me make a meal out of your biggest role"

We've included the video of 46-year-old Hugh Jackman recreating one of Jim Carrey's most iconic screen lines. He was testing out the new Dubsmash lip-syncing app, which allowed the X-Men star to record a brief clip of himself as he uttered Stanley Ipkiss's signature quote, 'Smoking'!' Its quite clear that the actor is having a ball with this new app. Interest in the app has peaked since The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon first introduced it to a wider audience. If you check out his Instagram account, you'll see that he has another short video where he uses the app to impersonate Katy Perry, singing Teenage Dream.

Jim Carrey and Hugh Jackman have never appeared on the big screen together, but perhaps this social media impersonation war will change all of that. Hugh Jackman has quite a line-up of films pending in the near future. He'll next be seen in this October's Peter Pan origin tale Pan, which will be followed in 2016 by the Olympic underdog biopic Eddie the Eagle. He will play indestructible mutant Logan for one final time in 2017's Wolverine 3. He is also set to play P.T. Barnum in The Greatest Showman on Earth, and is in talks to take the lead in new fantasy franchise The Odyssey. Jim Carrey has True Crimes lined up for next year, and then will team-up for the first time ever with Keanu Reeves in The Bad Batch. Take a look at what sparked this week's most hilarious social media war!
