Jim Field Smith Will Direct ‘The Inbetweeners’ Remake ‘Virgins America’

Jim Field Smith to direct The Inbetweeners remake Virgins America Paramount Pictures has brought on Jim Field Smith to direct their American remake of The Inbetweeners movie, which is now known as Virgins America.

We first reported on the remake last June, when the studio had set The Inbetweeners TV series creator Iain Morris to write the screenplay and direct, but it isn't known if he is still involved. The original series centers on four friends (Simon Bird, James Buckley, Blake Harrison and Joe Thomas) who fall right in the middle of the cool and nerdy spectrum of high school popularity. The Inbetweeners movie followed the main characters as they go on holiday to the island of Crete.

The Inbetweeners movie was the highest grossing comedy ever in the U.K. before it was released in the U.S. last September. MTV has also launched an American The Inbetweeners TV series starring Bubba Lewis, Zack Pearlman, Joey Pollari and Mark L. Young.

Jim Field Smith made his directorial debut with the 2010 comedy She's Out of My League, which he followed up with the 2012 satire Butter.

The Inbetweeners was released September 7th, 2012.

Virgins America was released in 2015.
